Origin and Plantation
This coffee comes from the mountainous region of Mantiqueira, located in the southern state of Minas Gerais in Brazil. Mantiqueira means “the region where the clouds are lying”. This location and the inherent climatic conditions are ideal for cultivating coffee. With an average temperature of 18 °C and an average annual rainfall of 1,850 mm per year this region is famous for its mineral springs. Right in the centre of this region the farm Santa Lucia can be found which produces highest quality coffees and was awarded with the national Cup of Excellence in 2009.

Cup of Excellence
The "Cup of Excellence" is the highest possible award for a coffee. It annually honors the best coffees from each country, which are selected by an international jury of experts during a three-stage competition based on strict selection criteria and blind tastings. Coffees of this exceptional quality are very rare. They reflect the unique characteristics of the soil quality, the climatic conditions, and the artisanal processing methods used on the farm.

The roast level indicates the degree of roasting: light, medium, or darker.  Lighter roasted coffees exhibit a more natural flavor profile, taste lighter with floral or fruity notes, and contain a pronounced citrus flavor. Darker roasted coffees have less acidity and caffeine, but are fuller in body with more chocolate, nutty, or caramel notes—but the darker they are roasted, the more bitter they can develop.

The so-called body is a feeling in the mouth caused by the coffee, such as fullness, complexity and heaviness.  Desired characteristics in the taste test are, for example: fragrant, earthy, fine, fruity, nutty, juicy, chocolatey, sweet, winey, spicy.
